Davey, Goliath and Bob [Alice is Missing,…]
Meanwhile in Blatant Stupidity news, Facebook alumnus and Path CEO David Moran is very sorry. Especially for the way the service absconds with user address books, and other personal data, transmits those objects clear text, and stores same on the company’s systems. Perhaps a wee dram of Information Security Architecture is inna order, ye ken, Davey [perhaps Alice or Bob might be of assistance]? Reminiscent of Facebook anyone?. We give them 90 days before the inevitable dead-pool membership kicks in. Oops, sorry, me bucko, very sorry.

Facebook Security? We Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Facebook Security…
Superb write-up at SecureList, by David Jackoby, detailing the latest Facebook security challenges (not yet mitigated). This is a well-rounded attack, predicated on the theft of all data, not just Facebook credentials. Brief details in the quote below:
“…This Facebook phishing attack is pretty interesting because it does not just try to trick the victim into visiting a phishing website. It will reuse the stolen information and login to the compromised account and change both profile picture and name. The profile picture will be changed to the Facebook logo and the name will be translated to “Facebook Security” but containing special ascii characters replacing letters such as “a” “k” “S” and “t”….” via SecureList and Kaspersky Lab Expert David Jackoby
Monday, December 26, 2011 at 12:30 Infographics galore, serving to illuminate the data stored - relevant to your life, and times - by the new borg, Facebook, that is, aka the soon to be usurper of all things interweb. In this case, at Infosthetics, apparently form does follow data. Don’t forget: You are not Facebook’s customer, you are Facebook’s inventory. More, via the link.

Oh, I get it… Corporate equivalent of federal probation.
Facebook Inc., managed to buy themselves some time - before the inevitable - with a recent settlement offer tentatively proffered to the United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC). News, of the FaceBorg’s agreement to settle for opt-in, rather than opt-out agreements with their member (also known as inventory), along with 20 years of oversight by the FTC privacy watchdog. Of course, based on the agreement, none of this is applicable to users (inventory) that join up after the agreement is accepted. Outstanding.
